Your words will determine the outcome of your life

“Dear brothers and sisters, not many of you should become teachers in the church, for we who teach will be judged more strictly. Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way. We can make a large horse go wherever we want by means of a small bit in its mouth. And a small rudder makes a huge ship turn wherever the pilot chooses to go, even though the winds are strong. In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches. But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire.”

(James 3:1-4 NLT)

Most people desire to live a pleasing life. They would like their life to unfold in a certain way. You must learn this key today: your life will not go where you want it to go, your life will go where you tell it to go. A giant horse is led by a little bit in its mouth. The simple tug of the reins will direct the massive animal. The horse doesn't go where it desires, the horse goes where the bit directs. A massive ship is directed by a small rutter. No one throws a boat, without steering capacity, into the ocean and expects to sail a specific course. Yet this is what people do with their lives. They are thrown into the ocean of life, going with the flow, and they think that they will sail from L.A to China. You must point the rudder to steer the ship. The Bible says that the tongue is the bit and the rudder of a person. Where you want the person to go, you must point the tongue. I love that the NLT adds the line, “even though the winds are strong,” when describing the rudder steering the ship. This means that the “storms” of life do not have to dictate your life. Tests and “storms” can arise in your health, in your finances, at your job, or in any area of life. The good news is that you don't have to remain in the storm with the wind and rain slamming you into one obstacle after another. The same way that you can point a rudder and steer a ship through a storm, you can use your confession and sail smoothly through the storms that arise. You may say, “I don't like the current condition of my life,” but the truth is, your life is exactly where your confession has brought it. The good news is you can change this today. Where are you telling your life to go this year? What reality are you speaking into existence?

Say this today: I declare that I am going forward. I declare that I am going up, from strength to strength, from victory to victory, and from glory to glory. I declare that everything in my life will increase this next year. I declare that opportunity is opening to me. I declare that my spouse will serve the Lord, my children will serve the Lord, and my family will serve the Lord in Jesus name.
