USING YOUR CONFESSION TO COME INTO AGREEMENT WITH GOD’S WORD

“Then the angel said, “I am Gabriel! I stand in the very presence of God. It was he who sent me to bring you this good news! But now, since you didn’t believe what I said, you will be silent and unable to speak until the child is born. For my words will certainly be fulfilled at the proper time.”

(Luke 1:19-20 NLT)

“Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” And then the angel left her.”

(Luke 1:38 NLT)

“You are blessed because you believed that the Lord would do what he said.”

(Luke 1:45 NLT)

In the birth story of our Lord and savior Jesus, the Bible also records the birth of John the Baptist. An Angel of the Lord came to a man named Zechariah and told him that his wife would give birth to a son who would be a mighty prophet of the Lord. Zechariah did not believe this word from God because He and his wife were very old and his wife Elizabeth had been barren for their entire marriage. Zechariah responded to the word of the Lord in unbelief. What was the result? The Angel of the Lord had to shut his mouth for the next several months. Now compare this to the story of Mary. An Angel of the Lord came to Marry and told her something very similar and Mary responded by coming into agreement with the word of God. The Bible says Mary was blessed because she believed that the word of the Lord would come to pass, but Zechariah had his mouth shut by the angel. Why did the angel shut his mouth? Why couldn't the angel simply leave zechariah alone with his unbelieving confession? Zechariah would have prevented the will of the Lord from coming to pass in his life by speaking in unbelief. We know this to be the case because later in the story when asked what the baby should be named, Zechariah came into agreement with the word by saying “John.” When he did this, his mouth was instantly opened. The moment Zechariah came into agreement with the word of the Lord, God permitted him to speak again because Zechariah would no longer threaten the sovereign will of the Lord from coming to pass. The same way that Zechariah could have prevented the word of God from coming to pass by his unbelieving confession. You can prevent the word of God from coming to pass in your life by your confession. The Bible says we are healed, but how many times do we walk around claiming our sickness by our unbelieving confession? The Bible says we are blessed, but how many times do we make ourselves a slave to the current economy by our unbelieving confession? Decide today to be like Mary. Be blessed because you believe that the Lord has done what He said.

Pray this prayer: Father, I believe, but help me overcome any unbelief in me. I believe your Word for what it says. Help me to never speak against what you have declared in your Word. Convict me if I begin to speak words of unbelief that I may shut my mouth lest I prevent your word from coming to pass in my life.
