The Law Of Impartation

“Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.”

(Proverbs 13:20 NLT)

Have you ever heard the phrase, “show me your friends and i'll show you your future?” That statement is absolutely true and Biblical. This is due to the law of impartation. You will become who you surround yourself with. Even social science will attest to this fact. Statistically each person's income falls right in the middle of their five closest relationships. So statistically if you took the five people you spend the most time with and wrote out each person's income, you would fall somewhere right in the middle. If this is true, then hypothetically you could change your income by changing the five people you spend the most time with. If you took a person who lived in poverty and made them spend multiple days a week with five multimillionaires for an entire year, what would happen to that person who struggles in poverty? According to the theory, that person would become a multi-millionaire. To most people, a million dollars seems unreachable. The average person wouldn't know where to begin in order to make one million dollars. What would happen if you spend copious amounts of time with five multi-millionaires? The million dollars would become less unattainable because you could talk to five people who could tell you how to make one million dollars using steps one through five. Their ideas rub off on you. Their way of thinking gets into you. This is the law of impartation. This is why church is so important. If you are struggling with your marriage and you surround yourself with men and women who have Godly and successful marriages, what is in them will get into you. I believe you can take a person off of the street that wants to change and yoke them with a few men who are successful spiritually, successful financially, and successful in the home, and that person off of the street will begin to prosper in less than one year. Church is not only a service you attend, it is a community of people that you knit your life together with. If you choose wisely, you will always become who you surround yourself with.
